As you might know, the film crew and I came across the story of the murder of teacher and anti-mining activist while in El Salvador. We weren't looking for this story, but once I heard it and met the people of San Isidro I couldn't turn a blind eye. Please watch, share, post. tweet, get the word out!

Return to the States

We're home! Our trip was a whirlwind adventure and we have so much to share with you. In addition to the interviews we've already mentioned, we heard from environmental activists, a human rights ombudsman, a Catholic bishop, a guerrilla ex-combatant, 2 baptist pastors, a former CNN sound man, a mayor, a University professor, and more.

Luis Romero - AP Photographer

We spent several hours at the Associated Press office in San Salvador with Luis Romero, an AP photographer. He had animated stories to share about the 12 years he spent covering the war with other members of the international press. Romero laughed as he recounted stories about dodging bullets between guerilla and army forces.

Deysi Cheyne - Instituto de la Mujer

Deysi Cheyne is the executive director of the Women's Institute for Research, Training and Development, known here as the IMU – Instituto de la Mujer. She spoke with us about the significance of the 1992 Peace Accords in El Salvador (her husband was one of the FMLN signers of the accords).

David Morales - Human Rights Lawyer

David Morales is a human rights lawyer here in El Salvador who helped to bring the case of Romero’s assassination before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. In our interview with Morales, he spoke to us about the significance of the Romero case as well as the cases of the massacres of the Jesuit priests at the University of Central America and of civilians at El Mozote.

Medicina Legal

We spent Monday morning at Medicina Legal, the center for Legal Medicine in San Salvador. Two forensic scientists spoke with us about their work in exhuming hundreds of bodies from the site of the El Mozote massacre. Mozote, in the northeastern part of the country, was the site of a military massacre of 794 civilians in December of 1981.

Saludos from San Salvador!
