Luis Romero - AP Photographer

We spent several hours at the Associated Press office in San Salvador with Luis Romero, an AP photographer. He had animated stories to share about the 12 years he spent covering the war with other members of the international press. Romero laughed as he recounted stories about dodging bullets between guerilla and army forces. More somberly, he told of going to photograph sites where the army regularly left civilian bodies. He also knew the current Salvadoran president, Mauricio Funes, from Funes’ days as a television reporter. Romero covered the recent presidential campaign for the AP, and continues to photograph the news in El Salvador.
